IMG Academy

Lauer is a baseball coach at IMG Academy in Manatee County, Bradenton, Florida. The academy's dedicated baseball program is the nation's premier provider of baseball coaching. It grants dedicated student-athletes the opportunity to excel within baseball, led by highly regarded coaches such as Lauer and his peers.

Coaching at IMG Academy concentrates on complete student-athlete development. That includes athletic development, a focus on strength and conditioning, and position-specific training. On-field exercises combine with challenging academic coursework in IMG Academy's classrooms.

Buckeye State native Lauer coaches students from eight to the college level. Having received coaching at IMG Academy, aspiring athletes are best positioned for options at national, junior national, varsity, junior varsity, and post-graduate baseball levels, among others.

Coach Lauer's responsibilities at IMG Academy include student testing, evaluation, and ensuring individual foundational growth. That's in addition to promoting competitive team growth among students, intensive personal growth, individual skill work, and athleticism within baseball and sports overall.

Career History

Before joining IMG Academy, Chet Lauer was an assistant baseball coach at John Carroll University in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Lauer is a graduate of John Carroll University. He joined the institution's faculty following a period as an international professional baseball player to oversee various sports operations as an assistant varsity baseball coach.

As an assistant varsity baseball coach, he led dozens of players through off-season training, published student newsletters, and managed game day logistics. While in the position, he further engaged in outreach and relationship development. He also created a baseball-focused holistic improvement program for students.

From 2015 until 2017, Lauer traveled the world as an international professional baseball player. His work as a professional baseball player took him as far afield as Canberra, Australia. He also spent time in Europe, including the French university city of Clermont-Ferrand, and Vienna, Austria.

While playing in Austria and France, European Baseball & Softball Magazine named Lauer their International All-Star of the time.

Academic Background

Saint Ignatius High School

Lauer studied at Saint Ignatius High School in his native Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The school is rooted in Ignatian spirituality and promotes growth, intellectual competence, and a commitment to social justice. Founded in 1886, the college-preparatory school offers a challenging curriculum emphasizing communication skills.

The vast Saint Ignatius High School campus is close to downtown Cleveland in the vibrant neighborhood of Ohio City. It occupies 19 buildings across over 20 acres and boasts three dedicated athletic fields. Saint Ignatius High School is accredited as a part of the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, courtesy of the U.S. Department of Education.

Cuyahoga Community College

Post-graduation from Saint Ignatius High School, Chet Lauer attended Cuyahoga Community College. Established in 1963, Cuyahoga Community College is Ohio's oldest and largest public community college. While studying at Cuyahoga Community College, Lauer established himself as a star of the school's baseball team.

Alongside Cuyahoga Community College, Lauer undertook additional college studies at Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, New Jersey. Between Cuyahoga Community College and Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, Lauer's studies focused on business, accounting, and communications.

John Carroll University

After completing his studies at Saint Peter's University and Cuyahoga Community College, Lauer attended John Carroll University, where he soon became an athletic academic honor roll student.

Located in the highly regarded baseball coach's home city of University Heights, it's from John Carroll University that he holds his bachelor's degree in communications. John Carroll University provides its students with the necessary skills to become inspired leaders with the character, heart, and knowledge to support the greater good throughout life.

A star student at the school, he was also the John Carroll University Blue Streaks baseball team captain. As team captain, he handled a talented pitching staff while providing crucial middle-of-the-order depth.

Personal Life

Chet Lauer is a lifelong Cleveland sports fan and supporter. That includes the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Cleveland Guardians.

John Carroll University graduate Lauer is one of eight relatives to have graduated from the renowned Ohio-based institution. He is the son of Thomas and Mary Lauer and is a younger brother to his sister, Mary. Like Chet, his father, Thomas Lauer, played baseball to a high level at John Carroll University in the late 1970s.

The highly regarded baseball coach proudly supports several all-important charities, nonprofit organizations, and other good causes. Outside his work and charitable efforts, he enjoys many hobbies, interests, and pastimes. A few of these hobbies, interests, and pastimes are golf, yoga, and video editing. He is also a keen triathlon participant.

Born and raised in University Heights, Ohio, he remains settled in the city today when not working away from home. University Heights borders nearby Beachwood, Cleveland Heights, South Euclid, and Shaker Heights. University Heights, which lies in Cuyahoga County, is well-known locally as the City of Beautiful Homes.
